Chicago Nightlife Spans Neighborhoods, Not Strips
Chicago's nightlife is neighborhood-based by design. Wicker Park and Logan Square for indie bars and craft beer (The Whistler, Lost Lake tiki). River North for the big-room clubs (TAO, The Underground). Boystown / Lakeview for the LGBTQ+ scene (Sidetrack, Roscoe's).
For jazz, Green Mill in Uptown is the real thing — Al Capone's bar, still operating at the same address, and still running serious jazz nightly. For blues, Buddy Guy's Legends is the institution.
Chicago bars mostly close at 2 AM, but late-night liquor licenses let specific rooms run to 4 AM (5 AM on weekends). The CTA's overnight service is thin; budget Uber.
